Election 2024: RE Policy Unit Urges Next Government to Back National Plan for Religious Education

With a general election just around the corner, the RE Policy Unit (a partnership between NATRE, the REC and RE Today) has released this set of ‘asks’ of the next government.

High-quality RE for all children in all schools, taught by well-qualified and trained teachers.

Improve:

Recruitment through funded SKEs and increased bursary

Invest:

In ITT and professional development through RE Hubs (and subject knowledge CPD for those teaching in schools)

Instigate:

A curriculum benchmark using The National Content Standard for RE in England

Instist:

That all pupils are taught RE, preparing them for the community, for work and to understand the world.

When politicians come to your door or engage you in conversation in other settings, you might want to ask them if they would support a National Plan for RE and deliver on these four issues.
